Composting
What is Composting?

Composed of organic materials derived from plant and animal matter than has been decomposed largely through ascorbic decomposition. It is used in gardens, landscaping, and agriculture. The compost itself is beneficial for the land in many ways, including as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer addition if vital humus or humid acids, and as a natural pesticide for soil. In ecosystems compost is useful for erosion control land and stream reclamation. Wet land construction and as landfill cover.

 How is Compost created?

Some ingredients are carbon, which is used for energy the microbial oxidation of carbon, produces the heat. Nitrogen, which grows and reproduces more organisms to oxidizing the carbon the decomposition process.

What is the key factors that influences compost?

Microorganisms are absolutely necessary for the composting process and without them organic matter in your compost cannot undergo the composting process. There are five types of microorganisms found in active compost. Which are Bacteria, Fungi, Protozoa, and Rotifers.

What can and cannot be composed?

Composting can destroy pathogens or unwanted seeds. Covering with mulch, and compost can destroy unwanted living plants.

Green Schools...

Picture
In my class 'Green Schools' we were talking about how it would be if we could get everyone to stop driving there cars, and ride bikes, and things like that. So he is an example about what you could do.
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a Warning too let you know that if you don’t stop driving you should fill pretty bad about yourself. There are so many other ways to get here. You could ride a bus, car pool; ride a bike, or walking. My point is for this you could save so much money, and afford other things you would like too buy instead of having to put it all in for gas. Think about you could txt while the other people are driving, you could get good exercise by walking, or riding a bike. Even riding a bus would be good because you could sleep, or many other things. I mean wouldn’t it be awesome to commute to your town and help save money to you community? Think about how much things could change if everybody started do commute by doing this.

Babies Essay

Babies are raised in all different types of the environment around the world. In the movie  “Babies” it shows the similarities and differences about raising babies around the world.

In the movie “babies,” there were four different countries that I watched how parents raised their babies.  In Japan, United States, Mongolia, and Namibia are some similarities concerning how the parents raise their babies.  The things that I found similar were that mothers had a strong bond with their baby. Just by watching them I could tell how they looked at each other that they both knew right away how important they were to each other.  The baby would be watching what their mom was doing, and always wanted attention. Every time one of the parents was busy doing something, the babies were always interested in what the parent was doing and tried to play with them, even though the parent didn’t want to because they were busy.

All four babies had nourishment and were extremely healthy. The babies acted the same way by how everything they did, as in moving around, eating, and playing. When the babies would move around, they would move the same way by how they would crawl on their stomach, or use their hands and feet to pull themselves up.  If they didn’t get the attention, they would throw a fit, and start crying. When the babies would play they would act the same way because every time they got their hands on something or had a toy in their hand they would look at with an interesting face. Sometimes they would even throw it across the room.  The babies would eat the same too. When they were hungry they eat of the bottle, or they had the mom’s breast. When they were eating all four of the babies was happy, and looked at their mom while they eat.

All four babies had an interaction with the same animals. The babies had an interaction with mostly cats, but there were dogs, and farm animals. Each baby treated the cat the same. Sometimes they would be nice to it, and the other times they would be mean to the cat. When they would be around the cat sometimes they would slap it, pull its hair, get on top of it, and even pulling it around as if it were a dog. The parents never did anything when they were with the animals. One baby was out side with a herd of sheep, and cows by himself. All the animals were nice to the babies, nothing bad happened to them by being around the animals. The animals kept all four babies entertained when they were left alone because they gave all their attention to them.

On the other hand there are also some differences of the four babies. They all had different types of toys to play with. Some played with blocks, stuffed animals, toy cars, even bones, and dirt. While the babies had their different toys to play, with they acted different playing with their toys. Some got mad at their toy and started crying, threw it, kept it in their hand and just looked at, or put it in their mouth. Some found their toys in different places, and some the parents gave them toys. They got it out of the toy box, on the dirt, or even got into their parents stuff and played with their things.

The babies all had different clothing. Some babies wore naked, loincloth, pajamas, and etc. The babies in Namibia only wore a loincloth that covered the bottom parts of their body, and some didn’t even wear any clothes. The babies in the United Stated had many different types of clothes, just like Japan, but different styles. In Mongolia the baby didn’t always wear clothes. In Japan and the United States their babies had diapers, and wipes to clean their baby after going to the bathroom. In Namibia the mothers would wipe their babies on their leg to get the poop off until they got older to where they could do it on their own. In Mongolia they used wash clothes to clean off the baby, and wrapped them in cloth to go to the bathroom almost like a diaper.

All the babies all took baths in different ways. In the United States the parents gave them a bath in the bathtub with shampoo and body wash. In Japan the parents gave their babies in the sink with soap where they wash their dishes. In Mongolia the parents put the baby in a bucket of water and just washed their baby with their hands getting all the dirt off. In Namibia they went to a creek that had a little bit of water and just washed their bodies of in that. After they were done the mothers rubbed some kind of oil on their body. Know matter what the babies always got a bath in some kind of a different way.

It’s pretty amazing how these four babies that were raised in different countries do some of the same things when you wouldn’t even think that they could. Just by watching the movie it’s pretty amazing to see some of the same similarities, and differences that these babies have.

 Iraq...

The System of Government...

Iraq is a Middle Eastern country with a majority population of Muslims. It has a oil driven economy due to the abundance of the natural resource available in the country. Until America declared war on Iraq in 2003, the country had been under the virtual dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. However America removed Saddam from power and is now trying to establish parliamentary democracy. This form of government is very similar to the one currently being used in America, with an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judical branch.

Religion...

Iraq's Muslims follow two distinct traditions, Shia and Sunni Islam. According to the CIA World Factbook, Iraq is 97% Muslim.(60% Shi'a,37% Sunni). Iraq is home to many religious sites that is important for both Shia and Sunni Muslims. Baghdad was a hub of Islamic learning and scholarship for centuries and served as the capital of the Abassids. The city of Karbala has substantial prominence in Shia Islam as a result of the Battle of Karbala, fought on the site of the modern city on October 10, 680. Similarly, Najaf is renowned as the site of the tomb of Alī ibn Abī Tālib (also known as "Imām Alī"), whom the Shia consider to be the righteous caliph and first imām. The city is now a great center of pilgrimage from throughout the Shi'a Islamic world and it is estimated that only Mecca and Medina receive more Muslim pilgrims. The city of Kufa was home to the famed scholar, Abu Hanifah whose school of thought is followed by a sizable number of Sunni Muslims across the globe. Likewise, Samarra is also home to the al-Askari Mosque, containing the mausoleums of the Ali al-Hadi and Hasan al-Askari, the tenth and eleventh Shia Imams, respectively, as well as the shrine of Muhammad al-Mahdi, known as the "Hidden Imam", who is the twelfth and final Imam of the Shia of the Ja'farri Madhhab. This has made it an important pilgrimage centre for Ja'farī Shia Muslims. In addition, some female relatives of the Prophet Mohammad are buried in Samarra, making the city one of the most significant sites of worship for Shia and a venerated location for Sunni Muslims.

 Natural Resources/ major exports...

Iraq has some of the largest oil reserves in the world, with at least 112 billion barrels of proven reserves and possibly as much as 200 billion barrels. Despite enviable geology, the industry has been continually set back by political disturbances. It is said that the world's last barrel of oil will be lifted from Iraq. This is a testament not only to Iraq's massive reserves, but also to the effect that modern Iraqi politics have had on the industry. The oil sector has suffered immense damage due to the impact of the war with Iran, the Gulf war, over 10 years of sanctions, another war in 2003 and finally the ongoing problem of sabotage by the Iraqi insurgency. Lack of adequate investment during the 1990s meant Iraq could only carry out temporary repairs to much of its oil infrastructure. Cannibalisation held the infrastructure together, and this makeshift solution became untenable with the looting of infrastructure and the exodus of trained oil engineers in 2003. Iraq's inter-war production high of 2.9 million barrels per day  was achieved in 2000 and has yet to be reached in the wake of the most recent war.

Relations with the United States...

Political relations between Iran and the United States began in the mid to late 1800s, but had small importance or controversy until the post-World War II era of the Cold War and of petroleum exports from the Persian Gulf. Since then an era of close alliance between Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's regime and the American government was followed by a dramatic reversal and hostility between the two countries after the 1979 Iranian Revolution.Up until World War II, relations between Iran and the United States remained cordial. As a result many Persian Constitutional Revolution constitutionalist Iranians came to view the U.S. as a "third force" in their struggle to break free of the humiliating British and Russian meddling and dominance in Persian affairs. It is even believed that such appointments were the result of contacts made by the Persian Constitutional revolutionaries with the executive branch of the US government, even though no official documents of such contacts exist. What is certain however is that Persia's drive for modernizing its economy and liberating it from British and Russian influences had the full support of American industrial and business leaders.

Treatment of Woman...

Like women everywhere, Iraqi women have always been vulnerable to rape. But since the American invasion of their country, the reported incidence of sexual terrorism has accelerated markedly. -- and this despite the fact that few Iraqi women are willing to report rapes either to Iraqi officials or to occupation forces, fearing to bring dishonor upon their families. In rural areas, female rape victims may also be vulnerable to "honor killings" in which male relatives murder them in order to restore the family's honor. "For women in Iraq," Amnesty International concluded in a 2005 report, "the stigma frequently attached to the victims instead of the perpetrators of sexual crimes makes reporting such abuses especially daunting."

Terrorist Activity within its borders...

The military tactic of cross-border attacks has once more been placed firmly in the limelight following the raid inside Syria by Iraq-based US forces on 26th October.  Although cross border raids of this type were frequently carried out during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, this was the first such attack into Syria since the Saddam Hussein regime fell.  Cross-border missile strikes are a tried and tested US tactic in combating the influx of external militant fighters from the autonomous tribal regions of Northern Pakistan into conflict zones in Afghanistan.  They have produced substantial results in this region as well as sending a clear political signal to neighbouring governments that they must do more to combat the transit of fighters and flow of weapons into neighbouring conflict zones.  Yet, they have consistently drawn stinging criticism from those who believe they violate fundamental norms of sovereignty, international order, and the perceived bedrock of these systems - international law.  Critics also cite the fear that such attacks will instigate a backlash from the governments and populations in question; a state of affairs that would merely intensify the security problems in the regions concerned and hinder any prospect of future co-operation through dialogue.

The issue of cross border raids is illustrative, even though not wholly explanatory, of a much larger tension in contemporary international affairs: the presumed irreconcilable paradigm of state sovereignty and intervention.  Within this context, cross-border raids provoke questions on the nature of sovereignty and what it means to be a sovereign nation-state in the global international order.  The concept of sovereignty is still arguably understood within a broad Westphalian sense, which assumes a nexus between territoriality and autonomy.  This claims that within the territory of a political entity the state is the supreme power, and as such, no state can intervene in the internal affairs of another.  To claim that ‘sovereignty’ is still informed by Westphalian principles is not to necessarily assume that it remains an absolute category, impermeable to contemporary developments.  The rise of the market state, intensified economic Western interdependence as well as governance projects such as the EU, have substantially challenged the territorial aspect of sovereignty and required a renewed definition.  Yet, the norm of non-intervention, which is informed by Westphalian principles, is a fundamental tenet of international order and has been codified as one of the inviolable principles of international law.

Daily life for the common man...

A recent meeting was held in London with Iraqi women’s organizations from the diaspora, UNIFEM UK, and a number of UK women’s organizations to discuss how to ensure women’s participation in post-conflict reconstruction in Iraq. One outcome of the meeting was an advocacy and action plan, included below, for the following weeks and months entitled 'Women and men working in equal partnership for the future of Iraq.’ Representation of women and men in planning decision-making, at least 40% men/40% women on both sides (indigenous and international). Post South African was an example. Direct and indirect sex discrimination. Access to justice in the legal, political and socio-economic environment, freedom from sexual violence, degradation and intimidation. If Iraq is to have a chance of progress with stability, gender considerations need to be mainstreamed into the entire reconstruction processes. Regardless of whether it is the US, UN, or some other 'coalition of the willing,' who run Iraq, any interim administrations at national, regional and local levels and all aspects of the planning and policy development, all entities set up to develop and govern the future Iraq should include at least 40% women and at least 40% men. This would be in line with UN Resolution 1325 passed in October 2000 stating the importance of inclusion of women and mainstreaming gender into all aspects of post-conflict reconstruction and peace operations.

Political Spectrum

I’m going to be writing about the “Political Spectrum.” I will be choosing eight hot topics that I’m interested, the way that I will be writing about my topics is by giving my information about why I chose it, and how I feel about it.

To start off, I’m going to give my opinion about abortion. I feel that it is a horrible choice for girls to pick because it’s another life coming to the world, and they just kill I t as if it was a bug. I think that if people take the time to think about it, they could understand more that it would be just like them. For an example how their child hood was growing up it would be something just like that. The child would go to school, learn how to talk, and etc. Even if it was a time in their life to where they couldn’t afford it, they could still have the baby and put it up for adoption and give it to a couple who can’t have children and want them. Basically I’m a conservative person on the topic of abortion. I feel that it’s wrong and know one should even think about doing it.

For my second topic I’m going to talk about health care. I’m a liberal person on this topic because there are so many people in the world who are sick, and dyeing and they can’t afford to get the help they need because they don’t have health care. These days if you don’t have health care know body will do anything for you. I feel that there are so many selfish people in the world, for my opinion “I think they only like to help the people with the money who pay up front.” I agree with President Obama on “health care should be for all.” For an example I think the conservative people are selfish because they want to make the health care private.

For my third topic I’m a liberal person when it comes to the topic about the death penalty. I feel that if know body in the world can kill people and don’t get away with it, then what gives them the right to kill people in prison? My opinion on that is if people go to prison they go there to be punished for what they did. They should go there to do there time and be released not to go and be killed. I mean that’s taking away an innocent life’s. I don’t think know body ha the right to kill anybody know matter what they have done.

For my fourth topic I’m a totally liberal person for when it comes to the topic about gay marriage. I feel that whatever type wants to be in love, like the gays, lesbians, and different races than they should have every right to do what they want. I personally think that know body has the right to judge people for the way they are, Gay people have just the much of a right to get married than straight people, like what the big deal? It just shows that to many people are cruel in the world, and racism still continues.

For my fifth topic about religion I’m going to half to say that I think that know body has the right to judge people for the way they are. I can’t really say if I were a liberal, or conservative person because I think that it’s good and bad about this topic.  The reason why I think it could be good is because sometimes it traditional to follow by the rules you have for your religion. I mean I know some people who take religion serious to them. For an example they can’t have sex until there married, or they can’t have any piercings, or tattoos. I guess it’s fine if people follow by what there told. Then again it could be bad because some people take it way to serious, and judge people. For an example if a Jewish person wanted to marry a catholic person, then their families wouldn’t approve because there not the same religion, and just be all racist about it. I guess in many different points of views religion could be good, and bad.

For my sixth topic I think the Government is totally messed up. If you think about all the things that went wrong over the years, blame it on the government. Based on there decisions on how they wanted things to work in our country they messed up and now look how things are today. People don’t have jobs, taxes were raised, and it could just go on and on. I mean there half the reason why our country is the way it is today. If people would step up and start going against what the government maybe the laws could change and our country could change and possibly be a better place.

For my seventh topic I’m a 100% liberal about the war in Iraq. I think that its pointless for them being over there in the first place. I’m against every single war mainly because innocent people go and fight for their country and loose their lives. It would be real nice if know body had to go and fight for there country and there didn’t have to be any terrorists, so everybody could get along. I’m sure for all the soldiers that go and fight their family and friends are worried, scared, and wondering everyday if that person is alive. Think about the families who get told that there love one has passed away, just how hurt they would be that they would never get to see, touch, or talk to that person ever again. I think its messed up just by sending them over there, its like a death chamber. They should bring the entire troops home.

For my eighth topic I couldn’t really say if I were liberal or conservative about the drug laws because it’s good and bad. A reason why it’s bad is because to many people get addicted to it and take advantage over it. People take advantages over it by there are little aged kids smoking it, and on some people it becomes a bad influence on people. After they opened up those dispensaries to many people took control over it. Now these days when you see or talk to someone it’s about marijuana. It’s a good reason why people smoke it because the ones who are in pain and etc, if the doctors give them a subscription then they have every right to smoke. A reason why it could be bad is because people who aren’t sick that don’t have it subscribed to them are smoking it, selling it, and etc.

That’s everything that when I think of the political spectrum that comes to mind. Everything that I wrote about each topic is everything that I think, and that I believe.

Elections 2010
On November 2nd, 2010 the voting has begun this Election Day across the country.  The balance of power on Capitol Hill and in statehouse nationwide will be decided today. The people running for Senate were Michael Bennet, and Ken Buck. By 1.8% Ken Buck won the spot in the house of senate. The people running for Governor were John Hickenlooper, and Tom Tancredo. The person who won as Governor was John Hickenlooper by 4.8%.  The people who were running for the House District 4 were Besty Markey, and Cory Gardner. By 7.7% Cory Gardner won House District 4. The person running for House District 7 was Ed Perlmutter, and Ryan Frazier. By 2.8% Ed Perlmutter won.
For federal offices (President, Vice President, and United States Congress), Election Day occurs only in even number years. Presidential elections are every four years, in years evenly divisible by four, which electors for President, and Vice President are chosen according to the method determined by each state. Elections to the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate are held every two years. All Representatives serve two year terms and are up for election every two years, while Senators serve six year terms so that one third of Senators are elected in any given general election. General elections in which presidential candidates are not on the following year the President and Vice President are inaugurated on Inauguration Day. Many state and local government offices are also elected on Election Day as a matter of convenience, and cost savings even with a handful of states hold elections for state offices during odd numbered of years. Congress has mandated a uniform date for presidential and congressional elections, though early voting is not authorized in many states.

Poetry
“I believe that everything happens for a reason.
People change so that you can learn to let go,
Thing’s go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right,
You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself,
And sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."

Editors Note #1
Whew, what a month. It’s already the second semester. As we have worked on this super fabulous issue more and intelligence students have joined the class. For the most part this has gone smoothly. There are many exiting and interesting articles that have been wrote, and that has been interesting to all of the readers out there. As fall is passing and winter is coming there are new things happening. Such as Thanksgiving, and Christmas. As you could imagine of course Yampah has things planned for the holidays. It may be a little similar from last year but I assure you that it’s going to be way more fun. Around here at Yampah there is going to be out side activity trips, and a nice Thanksgiving dinner. After that from the garage band students they will entertain us by putting on a show for us. As many of you know when you here the word “Christmas” everyone gets exited. At Yampah we will be exchanging gifts to each other by the fantastic art that we will be making.  On November 2nd, 2010 the big part of that day was voting. I know some people were happy about the elections, and some people weren’t too exited about it for who got elected. If you take a minute to just think about it, it’s a great thing because it’s going to help make our country a better community. The votes were pretty close to each other; it was almost like a tie because of how much it was off just by the percentage. As I have said before were writing amazing articles just for the Turning Point, and each time it gets better and better.

Poetry
“This life is what you make it. Know matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friend’s; they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything they’re your true best friend. Don’t let go of them. Also remember sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And believe, I hate to say it, most of them actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up, you’ll never find your soul mate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re going to fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile for.”

  Fall
Its already September 22, 2010 and fall is here. Every where you drive when you look up at the mountains, or even on the side of the road’s there are so many beautiful colors that are changing.
Has anyone ever wondered why the leaves change colors? By doing research it’s because the trees were grown in plots under either current or elevated atmospheric of carbon dioxide levels and their color was monitored using remotely sensed images of canopy greenness. Leaves turned yellow later in the year under higher carbon dioxide concentrations, even when exposed to same temperatures. The reason why is because its due to the affect of carbon dioxide on plant physiology.
In autumn when the trees are brown, the little leaves come tumbling down. They do not make the slightest sound, but lie so quietly on the ground. Until the wind comes puffing by and blows them off towards the sky.

     Movies
Paranormal Activity 2 is a great movie to see if you’re really into horror films. Even if you know someone who is into horror films it would be a great and wise decision to recommend it to someone to see. The people who may have seen the first one and probably thought that it was dumb, well the 2nd movie isn’t. Its a good movie it almost is as if it were real.
Paranormal Activity 2 is about a family that lives in a house and scary things end up happening to them.  There is something haunting there house but they don’t know what it is, they can’t see it, or touch it. A mother, father, daughter, and a young infant also a dog play in a film of a documentary that shows scary thing of an evil force. Be prepared for scary moments that will make you jump out of your seat. Doors slamming shut shadows moving across the floor, and many other crazy advents.

Intern Week

As you know In-Tern week is coming up right after the first semester is over. In-Tern Week will start October 26th, through the 29th.  The Advisors will be taking a group of students on different trips. Make sure too sign up early, and to have the fee paid.
Susie will be going to the Black Canyon by the Gunnison River for Hiking. They will stay there for about four days. The fee with Susie is $50.The day before they will be leaving their going to go to the store and get some food for the trip. This is a reason why it is important to pay your fee sooner, than later because half the money is going in for the food. Everybody that is planning on going with Susie you will need to participate in going shopping. Rick and Mike are going to the Arches National Park in Utah for three days of Hiking, Camping, and Rock Climbing. The fee is $50. Mindy will be going to Job Core in Colbron. They will have the principal show them around campus, basically showing the classes, and telling them about the basic details. This is really great for some students to who want to go to college but aren’t too sure about going because this is a much more easier way of college. You will need to bring your own lunch, and there is no fee for going. Aaron will be staying here in Glen Wood Springs for Shadowing people. Shadowing people is following people( Something you would like to be in life, follow them around, and see how they do things) Your choice of who you would like to follow. No fee needed.
Make sure too sign up for what Advisor you would be interesting in going with. Remember this counts as a fool line of credit.
